Support for Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) ends on July 12, 2011. To continue receiving security updates for Windows, make sure you're running Windows Vista with Service Pack 2 (SP2). For more information, refer to this Microsoft web page: Support is ending for some versions of Windows.

INTRODUCTION

There is no need to install the.NET Framework 2.0 or earlier versions such as 1.0 or 1.1 on Windows 7. The.NET 3.51 included with Windows 7, offers a full installation package which includes the full runtime installation packages for.NET 2.0 SP2 as well as.NET 3.0 SP2 for multiple operating systems (Windows XP/Server 2003 and Windows Vista/Server 2008) and for multiple CPU architectures. My MVP is for Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 IT, and I am getting increasingly good with Visual Studio. Windows 7 already includes.net 2.0 (it already has.net 3.5 Sp1 included)! So you can't install.net 2.0 with the MSI installer! Contact the support of the tool and request a Windows 7 compatible version. Developers interested in building applications for.NET Framework 2.0 can download and install the Microsoft.NET Framework version 2.0 Software Development Kit (SDK), which provides all the tools. Important: Make sure you have the latest service pack and critical updates for the version of Windows on the computer. To look for recent updates, visit Windows Update. In addition, make sure you have Windows Installer 3.1 installed before you install this service pack; Click the Download button on this page to start the download; To save the download to your.

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the system after you install this security update unless the files that are being updated are locked or in use. However, this security update will cause all Internet Information Services (IIS)-related services to restart. These include the IISADMIN, W3SVC, FTP, and SMTP services. This behavior occurs because a base component for the .NET Framework includes instructions to restart these services. Therefore, every update to the product will execute the same instructions to restart these services.

Update removal information

To remove this security update, use the Add or Remove Programs item in Control Panel.

Update replacement information

This security update does not replace a previously released security update.

Framework

Cause

Windows Update error code '0x643' and Windows Installer error code '1603' are generic error codes. Typically, these error codes mean that the update was not installed. These errors codes are usually caused by a corruption in the .NET Framework installation or by an inconsistency on the MSI database state.
